Komen!

Day 41

awoke at 6:30 for race. Out the door by 7. [takes 20 minutes to reach Coconut from my house.) Hit Komen traffic right before Coconut. Got routed right out of my planned parking lot, as in $%&*. lost about 15 more minutes to sitting in traffic from another direction. almost lost my shite. since i was one of many people stuck in ridiculous, immobile traffic, both races were started late, thank goodness. finally secured parking, walked up to the starting line, found Diane a few hundred meters, if that, from the starting line. Yay, Diane! Waited a few minutes for race to start. Watched for Kristin; didn't see her, so jumped when last runner passed. sprinted through throng of runners. found Kristin and Jenn about 1/3 to 1/2 through the crowd. Yay! Ran with Kristin for a mile and a half, but felt like i could go faster, so went off on my own. encountered a fellow librarian, Carrie MacD. we talked shop a bit and ran to the finish line together. was cool. found out her 33 year old sister in law, a mother of three young boys, was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, and is now battling a brain tumor. so sad. Carrie ran for her; I said a prayer for her. here's a pic of us.

komen 2010
(like my legs? LOLZ)

mini meal 1 (pre race): banana and some almonds

race: 32 minutes. my run felt really good! I felt a bit winded at the end of my other 2 5Ks, but felt totally fine upon finishing this race, and did it in the same amount of time! (Edison Parade: ca. 32 minutes; Roots and Ruts: 35 minutes)

mini meal: yogurt post race and BLACK! coffee (thanks to Brent and Coach!) w cinnamon & 1 packet of honey, which i couldn't even taste. must have gone to the bottom. didn't drink the entire cup. that shite is BITTER, but drinkable. black coffee is not so bad. :)

full out meal 1: HUNGRY! consumed left over chicken and veggies from last night & raspberries

NAP!

dinner at ORIGAMI: a few steamed shrimp dumplings; cajun seared sashimi tuna that Sarah recommended, ginger salad, and 2 of eric's rolls. a restrained cheat meal. i didn't use any soy sauce -- yay me! -- and easily could have ordered 2 rolls, but instead ordered the sashimi, which was so very good. however, i didn't feel sated after the meal. i had plenty of room leftover for my planned weekend cheat of ice cream at Cold Stone. Yum! v. worthwhile cheat. Got my usual small choc. w almonds and graham cracker crumbs. i briefly pondered ordering a medium, but restrained myself.

we ventured over to the bookstore after dinner. bought my reason magazine. felt peckish upon return home so made some steamed broccoli w lemon and pecans and watched hurt locker. enjoyed the day.

Jim & Kristin told me about the Expedition Everest Challenge at Disney today. Kristin & I both want to do it. The Challenge is a 5K adventure race with obstacles spread throughout the course (AKA an extended obstacle course) and a scavenger hunt at the end. FUN! It's June 12 at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Is part of Disney's Endurance Series, and is affiliated with the 100 million dollar ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex located at Disney. Teams of two participate. The reward for completing the challenge is an after-hours party at Disney's Animal Kingdom and a one day ticket to any Disney theme park. Expedition Everest is an awesome race. It is a ton of fun. My husband and I, along with a group of friends ran it two years ago. Another fun one is The Muddy Buddy ( google it). This one is a blast!

That traffic was stupid. I could walked there faster.
